Procoal - Almeria
Almeria province sits in the south east of Spain, it is a region beautifully situated on the Mediterranean. It is a territory that contains striking scenery, with mountains and valleys offering some of the best relief in Spain. The area has over 200km of rivers and volcanic rock formations away from the coast, making for some picturesque resting spots.
Mirror of the Sea
The name Almeria comes from old Arabic and means ‘mirror of the sea’, this adage could not be truer. The beaches and coastline can be described as picture perfect and ideal for family trips. Beaches are flat and sandy and the coast is dotted with little coves, allowing you to tuck yourself away and enjoy the best that the long hot summers have to offer.
Silver Mines
In the year 2000, Almeria had a great discovery in one of the abandoned silver mines. A geode (crystallised rock formation) eight metres long was discovered; it caused great excitement within geology circles. Considering most geodes fit inside the palm of a hand, to find one that ten people can stand inside is a truly magnificent discovery. So valuable is this unearthing that the mine is not open to tourists and a twenty four hour guard is in place to prevent looting.
